As gas prices rise, WSU promotes bikes - Winona Daily News

The so-called “Bike Phantom” will spend the next week posting small prizes on about 200 bikes across campus. Her work is all part of the event that kicked off Monday and will run through Friday, in support of campus pedalers. “We’re really trying to promote a bike consciousness,” Lippe said. “It’s definitely more eco-friendly.” More people are opting for two wheels instead of four because of rising gas prices, and bike sales have picked up in the last couple of years, said Tim Theis the owner of Kolter Bicycle & Fitness in Winona. “We’ve seen more people getting back on their bikes,” he said. “We’ve seen a big jump.”
