Under soaring gas prices, vanpooling provides alternative for commuters - WSYR TV

After her bus line to the Cornell campus was terminated, Kim Scott thought driving would ber her only option. But she started vanpooling in January. She said vanpooling has cut her commute by a half hour each way. Scott noted that vanpooling is “more democratic” than car pooling."If there's something that has to be changed we talk to each other before we say this is the way it's going to be,” she said.According to Jesse Kafka of vanpooling organization VPSI, each participants’ needs have to complement each other."Work schedule has to match - we kind of hold the hands of the group to say these are the kind of things to think about - your schedule, a little bit about your personalities, you need to have people who are willing to drive,” Kafka said.Kafka visited Cornell on Wednesday and was scheduled to help lay the groundwork for a vanpooling program at Ithaca College on Thursday.
