$4.17?!? Gas prices hard on younger drivers, too - Andrew Walker, Star Press

With local gas prices on Monday rising to about 58 percent of the hourly pay at her minimum-wage job, Shanda Nolley said she is beginning to run out of answers to how she can keep gas in her Jeep's tank. A single mother of an 18-month-old son -- as well as a business student at Ivy Tech Community College -- Nolley, 23, said her job as a waitress at Pizza King in Yorktown just doesn't cut it sometimes. "It's ridiculous," Nolley said. "My whole paycheck pretty much goes toward gas. I'm spending more in gas money than I am for rent each month. It's very frustrating."
